Is the DVD dead?

Is the DVD dead? That’s what’s on everyone’s mind.  Although DVDs have some disadvantages, there are still some unique advantages to owning them.

For your DVDS you get certain features such as photos for a preview of the movie on the back of the case with an introduction summary of the movie, these would make it more appealing to costumers to make the choice whether to buy it or not. On the front of the DVD case you have the title of the movie and a single image in full detail of the movie which would be the first thing the costumers would see.

On the back you get your copy right warnings and also get age ratings for example 12A or 14 or 18 and PG are the most common age rated movies and you also get copy right warnings and what will happen if you abuse the copy right.
 In the DVD you have special features such as behind the scene, meeting the cast and certain DVDS include that in another disc, for your high rated movie there are blue ray DVDS which mean high deflation (HD).  When the DVD begins the movie you get copy righting in full detail, then you have the moving images, clip and logos of the company e.g. Universal, Sony, DreamWorks, 20th Century Fox and Columbia Pictures

People prefer DVDs because they contain extra bonus features that you cannot find online on Apps for example having a behind scenes feature of the film and also having the option to skip to the part you want to watch, which is very useful. You can stop the movie and nothing will get interrupted but with your online movies that you will be viewing a laptop or computer that could turn off and you would have to restart the movie again.

Another bonus to having a DVD is if the viewer scratches you can send it off and a company will be able to rewrite your DVD,  You have your BLURAY DVDs that some do prefer BLURAY because it's fast and in HD and also has a greater storage capacity and a better quality of image. DVDs are really popular because people like to physically own a film rather than downloading it because most old movies aren't accessible online with the lack of links.

DVDs are still sold everywhere including high street shops and supermarket stores; Blockbuster and HMV still stock and sell a huge range of DVDS. Despite the Illegal pirate DVD market there is still a consumer demand for genuine DVDs - the pirate versions are most common online, where you can catch new movies out in the cinema online, but the lacki of quality makes some totally unwatchable.  Most people nowadays also have the hardware that is necessary to support viewing the bonafide versions - so why choose to watch a low quality pirate copy?

There are those who aren't so fond of DVDs, because they take up space and are non-compatible with 3D technology.  Now that online streaming is available through Netflix, Lovefilm, 1 Channel, Youtube, and BBC Iplayer and on demand content is available through Sky TV, Virgin Media and BT Vision, the DVD seems less and less useful. As a result, sales have dropped and some DVD retailers have closed branches, like HMV and Blockbusters and there is an argument that DVD is dead.  However,  there are other solutions and outlets for DVD lovers as they can now purchase them in different shops such as Tesco and Asda.

The way technology is changing and developing, it looks like they will become obsolete like the video cassette, overall in my opinion I do think DVDs are going to die out with more use of the internet accessing it through WIFI or on your phone, internet is even growing underground on tubes which means our technology is growing rapidly: in just click you are able to watch a movie online but there will be a few movie lovers that would want to have the physical product instead of accessing it online.

Here are some examples of DVD covers with the features I have mentioned;
