Is the DVD dead?
Is the DVD dead? That’s what’s on everyone’s mind.
Although DVDs have some disadvantages, there are still some unique advantages
to owning them.
For your DVDS you get certain features such as
photos for a preview of the movie on the back of the case with an introduction
summary of the movie, these would make it more appealing to costumers to make
the choice whether to buy it or not. On the front of the DVD case you have the title of
the movie and a single image in full detail of the movie which would be the
first thing the costumers would see.
On the back you get your copy right warnings and
also get age ratings for example 12A or 14 or 18 and PG are the most common age
rated movies and you also get copy right warnings and what will happen if you
abuse the copy right.
In the DVD you have special features such as
behind the scene, meeting the cast and certain DVDS include that in another
disc, for your high rated movie there are blue ray DVDS which mean high
deflation (HD). When the DVD begins the movie you get copy righting in
full detail, then you have the moving images, clip and logos of the company
e.g. Universal, Sony, DreamWorks, 20th Century Fox and Columbia Pictures
People prefer DVDs because they contain extra bonus
features that you cannot find online on Apps for example having a behind scenes
feature of the film and also having the option to skip to the part you want to
watch, which is very useful. You can stop the movie and nothing will get
interrupted but with your online movies that you will be viewing a laptop or
computer that could turn off and you would have to restart the movie again.
Another bonus to having a DVD is if the viewer
scratches you can send it off and a company will be able to rewrite your DVD, You
have your BLURAY DVDs that some do prefer BLURAY because it's fast and in HD
and also has a greater storage capacity and a better quality of image. DVDs
are really popular because people like to physically own a film rather than
downloading it because most old movies aren't accessible online with the lack
of links.
DVDs are still sold everywhere including high
street shops and supermarket stores; Blockbuster and HMV still stock and sell a huge range of DVDS. Despite the Illegal pirate DVD market there is still a consumer demand for genuine DVDs - the pirate versions are most common online, where you
can catch new movies out in the cinema online, but the lacki of quality makes some totally unwatchable. Most people nowadays also have
the hardware that is necessary to support viewing the bonafide versions - so why choose to watch a low quality pirate copy?
There are those who aren't so fond of DVDs, because they take
up space and are non-compatible with 3D technology. Now that online
streaming is available through Netflix, Lovefilm, 1 Channel, Youtube, and BBC
Iplayer and on demand content is available through Sky TV, Virgin Media and BT
Vision, the DVD seems less and less useful. As a result, sales have dropped and
some DVD retailers have closed branches, like HMV and Blockbusters and there is an argument that DVD is dead. However, there are other solutions and outlets for DVD lovers as they can now purchase them in different shops
such as Tesco and Asda.
The way technology is changing and developing, it
looks like they will become obsolete like the video cassette, overall in my
opinion I do think DVDs are going to die out with more use of the internet
accessing it through WIFI or on your phone, internet is even growing
underground on tubes which means our technology is growing rapidly: in just click you are able to watch a movie online but there will be a few movie lovers
that would want to have the physical product instead of accessing it online.

Evaluation on Installation Video.
In
my evaluation I will talk about my idea that I created for my
video installation: my idea was to tell a story (with meaning and heart
full messages) but also to use visual beauty. I started experimenting with different
types of lights and props to get a strong solid idea but also to get inspiration. I achieved this with my experiments in lighting, I enjoyed shooting my video
installation with the content of the video being about colourful lights and scenery that showed trees, the sun, buildings and clouds. I was utilising the beauty of the natural world and this created a natural and realistic effect.
It
was a challenge but a creative challenge that was remarkably eye catching on how you
could really open your mind to such creativity that is hidden in nature. To shoot my installation
video, I used a DSLR camera, shooting in video mode, using manual focus in order to create a sense of losing yourself in the
lights, I used one light but covered it with soft cell paper; you can cover
over the light in any type of colour e.g. purple, red or yellow as it changes the
way the light performance is played and the mood. I used a variety of colours depending on the atmposphere I was trying to achieve.
When I went outside to shoot, I also used a DSLR Camera with focus in manual setting, I zoomed in and out while using the focus effect on the tree with the sun's light blooming through the trees. This was fantastic and showed how, with little effect, nature creates its own beauty.

In the process of shooting I found only the lack of
location hard but within the weeks I overcame the difficulties as I managed to
find myself a room to creatively bring my idea into an installation video and the area of Westminster.
For the editing process I found it much easier due to that I collected my skills that I've learnt and imported into this video installation but I have learnt more skills during the system of creating this video such as opening my mind to new idea’s in a creative method, using cell lights, capturing video in focus and out to add effects straight from the DSLR Camera itself then later in editing.

The timing of finishing my production work was a
good outcome that I'm happy with, I accomplished what
I need to do with all my planning e.g. mood board, shoot list and mind maps. I
am happy with my installation video because it shows visual meaning and meaningful statements and reality within nature and that is what I achieved. The feedback I received from others was that the lights
had a good visual view with the different colouring and also that I expand my mind with the idea of using nature and every day scenery but with expanding the beauty and lighting in more depth.
This project itself was to show our creatively and active mind to be more outspoken which was a great way for me to learn about what I have learn't in the past two years in the course, the
projects was an accomplishment and an enjoyable creative one too, I've learnt how to successfully make a installation on my own to a professional standard.
I projected my video installation in a creatively manner by creating a plain brown box in to a colourful and creative scenery in a box, where I projected my video installation in to this creative box I created it by painting the box using white, cream, blue, black, green, yellow and blue to create the sun, clouds, sky, mud and grass.
To conclude this evaluation, I think for me my installation was very imaginative and creative to a professional standard with having the loving side of nature, which brag brightness and a calm, peaceful feeling and from the creative side of this video installation I have made is that I created a piece to project my video installation in that related to the content of the installation video.

Research installation video artists
An American artist named Douglas Gordon and an actor named James Franco have created a video installation in Pace Gallery in London called Psyco Nacirema, The artists first collaborated on the Rebel constellation, a work presented at the Venice Film Festival, in September 2011 and on Rebel, an exhibition presented at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles in 2012.
In these works, Franco acted as a producer for Gordon, while in Psycho Nacirema Gordon has acted as a curator and teacher for Franco. In Psycho Nacirema, James Franco uses the motel structure as both a physical and literal framework, reinterpreting iconic scenes from the original film through details such as the infamous shower room where the film character Marion Crane, is murdered. One of Gordon’s most well-known works is 24 Hour Psycho (1993), a projection of Alfred Hitchcock’s famous film slowed down to last an entire day which also sparked inspiration for the exhibition.
James Franco Quotes;

One artist I found most different and fascinating was Bruce Munro he is an installation artist working in light. He Owns a three-part company they have an enduring passion for light in all it's forms. They approach the creation of lighting plans for interiors and gardens as an art in itself. They are creating bespoke luminaries, chandeliers and sculptures. But their large scale installations are is their heart and soul, and best express is what they love about light.

“Film is the medium that employs all art forms, but it is contained within the screen. We take this multi-form idea and pull it through the screen, so that the different forms are once again fully dimensional and a new nexus of interaction and significance is created. In this show, we go back to the original locations and images of Psycho and alter them so that once again the viewer's relationship with the material changes. One becomes an actor when interacting with this work. Film becomes raw material and is sculpted into new work.” James Franco, May 2013.
Use Me is an installation video worked on by three different artist; you have Anthony Rocco who the video is made by, you have Yuri Psinakis who was the producer for this Installation Video and you have the music by Dillon J. Arismendi three artist that have emerged together that have created a piece with visual content, It is an installation video where you have your on views on it and your own feelings for it while watching the installation video.
Yuri Psinakis who is the producer is a self-taught artist and producer living, five years ago Yuri curated Contemporary Bay Area Art, which featured 14 artists working in different media whose commitment to individual aesthetic represented the wild diversity of Bay Area art. With USE ME, the Scion Installation Space will be articulated with functional objects, or their inspiration, materialized by designers whose work is informed through close relationships--with friends, clients, patrons, and their own passion.
Overall, these three artist I chose to talk about was different and looked more at the visual aspect of their video installation. With James Franco acting in Pscyo Nacirema was a highlight of the video installation because Franco is a well know actor, to have an installation video of him here in London in a great way for his fans and himself as we don't get that much of a change to view James Franco work. Other than James Franco's eye catching installation video, you have Bruno Munro who's all about lights which is straight visual and mind blowing type of art which is great because you can walk in to his gallery and feel happiness and bright and good about things because of the effect and care and love he has put in to his video installation which is great artistic work.

Channel Ident Evaluation.
A channel indent is channels ID to show to others that they
are watching a channel for example BBC ONE they adverts there channel indent
before each show they have to create different indents because they need
viewers and a channel indent also in engages the viewers before the show comes on
air such as adverts doesn’t engage us more than indents but it also means what
target audience there are aiming at.
This evaluation is regarding a groups project by myself and
my group, we made a channel indent from planning, producing and finally finish
out creative piece in post-production
For mine and my groups Channel Indent we came up with three different
idea's which we story board and mind map to make it in to a unique channel indent
and used two of our ideas and emerged it in to one and agreed on the idea of
the pupils saying there thoughts about the college because our indent have a
target audience for those inside the college from the ages 0f 16-25 are aim was
to make this channel indent for those in the college. In our indent we had the ‘Cwc’
sign in clay animation because the ‘Cwc’ stand for the colleges name ‘City of
westminters’ that was our channel to make our indent for. Where we made a clay
Pac man eat the ‘Cwc’ sign the reason we used Pac man in to a clay animation in
our channel indent because it’s a well know game character for those inside our
college which would hit out target audience. We also got the pupils in photo animation
where have word bubbles of what they think of the college coming out of there
animated mouth. The Channel Indent was successful as it came out as how we planned
it in our pre-production work from out mind minds to story broads and group
meetings.

My photos are appropriate material for Timeout magazine for tourists visiting London. My photos included rules of thirds. This technique was particularly effective in my first photo because it gave the image depth and allowed me to focus on just one part of the scene. In my other photos, I used framing to incorporate several elements of the scene into one image. In the second image I was able to incorporate the trees, the O2 arena and the buses.
In the third image, I attempted to give the viewer an active experience of the tube station by focusing on the information displayed digitally under the tube sign. I felt that this was successful because the image came out on as I had planned and envisioned. The fourth image I took was because it was the first view of the 02 arena when you walk out of North Greenwich station. I was trying to take the viewer on a stage by stage visual journey around the area of North Greenwich. In the fifth and sixth images, I decided to take a photo of Ravensbourne University because I thought it was am innovative example of London architecture and design, particularly as it is an educational institution that specialises in creative digital design.

In the seventh and eighth images, I tried to portray the beauty of London at night. I wanted to include the River Thames and the 02 arena as they are iconic London landmarks. I decided to take the photos at night because of the unique vibrant effect of the city lights. I particularly liked the way the lights bounced off the river. The ninth and tenth image was focused on a historical building in Woolwich where they have a projection on the building of the words 'Royal Borough of Greenwich'. I chose to take a of photo of the projection because it has only been recently introduced. My last image is a full view of Woolwich Common incorporating the tall Nightingale building. Wherever you are in the area you will always see this tall building. It is a very famous and eye catching piece of architecture.
All my images try to tell a story of South East London. It is an area which is very attractive to tourists who flock to see it both at night and during the day. The images take the viewer on a visual journey traveling around the area. I tried to capture the beauty of the landscape. The feedback I got from my classmates was that the progression from my mood board to my photographs was very clear and demonstrated that I had taken effective inspiration from my research. They thought that I should be very proud of the final images.
